Paradigm
and Site Options
Site
selection for a new building, a campus precinct, or a new campus, can
be advanced by devising a realistic paradigm solution for a promising
site; and then using the model as a "site footprint" to test
the pros and cons of alternative sites.
The
testing criteria should be defined uniquely for each situation. Typical
coverage could include acreage available, land configuration, infrastructure
requirements, the benefits and costs of topographic adjustments, microclimate
influences, views and vistas, and phasing implications.
We
add this example of rational planning to our web page in tribute to the
University of Liberia representatives, who after two decades of tragic
clan warfare, exacerbated by recent events, look forward to saner days,
and the development of higher education as "a healing action"
in their now troubled nation.
